((grosskopf)) … wer ist das? Man könnte sagen, ((grosskopf)) ist eine Art Trichter, in den man alle möglichen Einflüsse und musikalischen Stile hineinstopft und am anderen Ende des Saxophons kommt seine Musik heraus … Jazz-Funk, gewürzt mit etwas Drum’nBass und Ambient-Sounds! Jedoch ist auch diese stilistische Beschreibung ((grosskopf))’s Arbeit schon wieder viel zu eng, wenn man sich seine unterschiedlichen Projekte und seine Kompositionen der letzten Jahre anhört. Die verschiedenen Jurys, die ihm Preise, wie den „Leipziger Jazznachwuchspreis 1999“, den „Kulturförderpeis der Stadt Friedrichshafen 2002“ und das Stipendium für das „Skidmore Jazz Institute New York“ zuerkannten, fällten ihre Entscheidungen im Besonderen aufgrund der stilistischen Vielfalt ((grosskopf))’s in seinen Kompositionen und seinem Spiel.
Konzertreisen – organisiert und durchgeführt von seiner eigenen Booking-Agentur (type:g)live- führten ihn bislang nach Europa, Nordamerika und Asien. Dort spielte er nicht nur seine eigene Musik, sondern auch mit einheimischen Musikern deren Musik … „Musik ist der Rohstoff und lässt sich beliebig bearbeiten.“ So seine Erklärung auf Fragen, wie es möglich sei, beispielsweise nach Kathmandu zu fliegen und dort mit nepalesischen Musikern ad hoc eine Melange aus traditioneller nepalesischer Musik und seinen eigenen Wurzeln zu formen.
Wenn man ihn danach fragt, was für ihn Musik bedeutet, so antwortet er: „Freiheit, Energie & Lebensfreude!“ Das sind die grundlegenden Dinge, die für ((grosskopf)) bei seiner Arbeit wichtig sind … nicht anderes zählt! … und das hat auch die Presse erkannt …

((grosskopf)) … who’s that? you might say that ((grosskopf)) – meaning “big head” - is a kind of funnel where you put in all kinds of influences and musical styles and out of his saxophone’s bell comes his music … jazz-funk spiced with drum’nbass and ambient sounds! in fact this stylistic description of ((grosskopf))’s work is too narrow if you look at his diverse projects and the compositions of the last years. the juries, awarding him the “leipzig jazz-award 1999”, the “art-award of the city of friedrichshafen 2002” and the scholarship for the “skidmore jazz institute new york”, did so because of the huge stylistic diversity in playing and composing.
up to now he travelled through europe, north america and asia to play his music. these tours where promoted and organised by his booking agency (type:g)live, which he found in 2002. during these tours he didn’t only play his music but also met local musicians playing their traditional music … “music is a raw material you can work with just as you like.” that’s the answer you’ll get if you ask him, on how it’s possible to go to, let’s say kathmandu and create a mixture of traditional nepalese music and ((grosskopf))’s own roots with nepalese musicians.
